Favourite local bar?
L’Oscar, in rue de Berri, a nice place to smoke chicha, do business, work with great cocktails, food and music!
Favourite local café/restaurant?
So many are great that it’s difficult to choose! For the best pizza in Paris, definitely Paparazzi near the Édouard VII theatre and the Athénée Louis Jouvet theatre (by the way, a beautiful Art Nouveaubuilding, just renovated!). A very good Japanese near République is the Umami Matcha Café in rue Béranger: a nice place to go before wandering in the Marais! And for the seafood, head to Marius et Janette, in avenue George V, next to the Alma Bridge. For more traditional French cuisine, I recently discover the Rôtisserie d’Argent, the same maison as the famous restaurant La Tour d’Argent, in quai de la Tournelle, close to the exquisite place of Ile Saint-Louis and Notre-Dame.
Chocolate from Patrick Roger – for the different tastes, the great service and the shops themselves are just amazing! Especially the one Place de la Madeleine. Another one is the Tarte Tropezienne by Mika. Originally created in Saint-Tropez, you can now find one in the Saint Germain district of Paris in rue Montfaucon.
Too many! But probably deli meats and cheese with a very good baguette… For cheese, Androuet in rue de Verneuil, close to the former hotel particulier of Serge Gainsbourg, is fabulous! Beillevaire is great too; there are few shops in Paris but I tend to go to the on rue Saint-Antoine in the Marais. A great choice and very good advice (and they speak English!). For deli meats, Hugo Desnoyers, near Denfert-Rochereau, is probably one of best in Paris… he also provides some of the city’s best restaurants.
The best thing about your quartier?
It is a nice residential area with only houses with gardens. It’s like the countryside in Paris… just exceptional!
